Hunger: 50 Niger- bound trucks of foodstuffs intercepted in Zamfara
Shehu Sani, a resident of Zurmi town in Zamfara State, revealed that Zamfara State Transport Agency intercepted over 50 trucks carrying food supplies bound for Niger Republic.
The trucks were halted near the Nigerian border with Niger Republic at Gidan Jaja village. Sale Shinkafi, spokesperson for ZARTO, confirmed the interception, alleging that the trucks were attempting to smuggle food items.
ZARTO directed the truck owners to sell the goods in Nigeria at fair prices instead. The trucks were not accompanied by ZARTO officials but were instructed to return to their localities to sell the goods locally.
This action aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s directive for NSA Ribadu, IGP and governors to address food scarcity and hoarding in the country.
