Benue Gov Alia Appoints 2Face as Technical Adviser for Entertainment, Community Outreach

The Benue State Government has appointed Nigeria’s musical icon, Innocent “2Baba” Idibia, as the state’s new Technical Adviser on Entertainment and Community Outreach.

Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia made the announcement today, April 23, 2025, during a brief ceremony held at the Government House in Makurdi. The decision is part of the administration’s broader strategy to leverage entertainment as a bridge to community development, youth empowerment, and cultural promotion.

Alia, who took office in 2023 as a priest-turned-politician, described the appointment as a “new dawn for Benue,” saying 2Baba’s return to serve his roots reflects the state’s commitment to inclusive and creative governance.

“Innocent Idibia is more than just a globally celebrated artist,” the governor said. “He represents the dreams and resilience of our people. His influence will inspire, unite, and amplify the talent that Benue is rich with.”

2Baba, a proud son of the soil and one of Africa’s most enduring musical exports, expressed gratitude for the appointment and a deep sense of duty toward his home state.

“Benue made me, and I’m humbled to give back in this way,” the ‘African Queen’ crooner said. “Through music, outreach, and real community engagement, I want to help tell our story and empower the next generation.”

The role will see him advising on entertainment-driven projects, youth inclusion programs, and using his global reach to spotlight Benue on a much larger stage. The 49-year-old artist, who began his journey with the iconic Plantashun Boiz before launching a successful solo career, is expected to bring both star power and strategic insight to the role.
