Adamawa State Gov’t Receives Food, Non-Food Items From NEDC

The North East Development Commission, (NEDC) has handed over assorted food and non-food items to Adamawa State government for onward distribution to vulnerable persons in the state.

Handing over the items, MD NEDC Mohammed Goni Alkali said the items to be presented to ADSEMA include rice, spaghetti, vegetable oil, brocades, mats, children wears and blankets to flood victims.

Represented by Acting Coordinator of the commission in Adamawa, Fatima Bakari, the MD noted that the items will be shared to religious groups, people living with disability and other vulnerable population in Adamawa State.
Alkali added that the Commission has also provided agricultural machineries and processing equipment to Adamawa food security committee for onward distribution to the people.
“The items include; 16 rice mills, 8 oil press machines, 35 walking tractors, 35 trailers, 20 rotary tillers, 30 planters and harvesters 21 threshers, 40 Rodgers, 40 2 disc ploughs, 2000 bags of fertilizer, 3 high pressure water pumps and 5 boreholes and installation of solar street lights in tertiary institutions as well as communities in the state.
“The landmark strides by the commission in the state has built the capacity of 400 youths in various fields in renewable energy and solar installations (50), climate change adaptation and awareness campaign (100) use of efficient energy stove for women (70), fabrication of energy efficient stove and briquette production (20) waste collection and recycling (100) participants and watershed management training (75) participants,” Alkali said.
In order to prevent flooding in the state capital, the MD said NEDC in partnership with the state government is currently desilting and evacuating municipal waste in 60,000 meters drainages within the state.
