One person has been confirmed dead while seven others sustained injuries following the collapse of a building in Kirikasamma Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The council’s Information Officer, Musa Muhammad, disclosed in a statement from Dutse on Sunday that the incident occurred on Friday night at Kabak village after a torrential downpour hit the area and its environs.

According to him, five of the injured victims are currently receiving treatment at a hospital, while two others have been treated and discharged.

“The incident happened midnight Friday, after which five of the victims were hospitalised while the remaining two were treated and discharged,” Muhammad explained.

He added that the chairperson of Kirikasamma LGA, Muhammad Maji, visited the scene to commiserate with the victims and their families. The council also provided emergency support — N500,000 for medical expenses and an additional N100,000 as immediate relief for the affected families.

The tragedy comes amid reports of worsening seasonal rains in parts of northern Nigeria, which often trigger flooding and structural collapses in rural communities.
