OUTBREAK: Cholera Kill 13 Persons In Adamawa

Cholera outbreak in Mubi North and Mubi South local government areas of Adamawa State has claimed 13 lives with 236 people affected with the disease.

Chief Felix Tangwami, Commissioner for Health and Human Services disclosed this to newsmen after weekly State Executive Council Meeting presided over by Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta held at Government House Council chamber, Yola.

He said the deceased died at home rather than in health facilities, noted that the state government in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), had taken immediate action to contain the outbreak.

“From the beginning, we have been on top of the situation. Our presence has been there, and this cannot be denied,” he said.

He explained that the state epidemiologist, the Director of Disease Control at the Primary Care Development Agency, and volunteers were deployed to Mubi to provide services and create awareness.

Tangwami also called on traditional leaders to support government efforts by encouraging residents to promptly seek treatment at health facilities.

Tangwami called on people in the state particularly residents of the two local governments to imbibe the culture of cleanliness by keeping their environment clean and disinfecting their hands always.
