Nigerian Army Leads Peace Dialogue Between Tiv and Fulani Communities in Taraba

In a determined push toward non-violent peacebuilding, the Nigerian Army, through its 6 Brigade in Jalingo, convened a peace dialogue aimed at addressing the longstanding tensions between the Tiv and Fulani communities of Bali LGA, Taraba State.

The dialogue, held at the Brigade’s Conference Room, was organized under the leadership of Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS). The initiative aligns with the Army’s ongoing non-kinetic strategy to tackle internal conflicts by fostering dialogue, reconciliation, and trust-building.

Brigadier General Uwa, in his opening remarks, underscored the power of dialogue as a tool for conflict resolution. He urged all parties to prioritize peaceful coexistence, exercise restraint, and refrain from inflammatory rhetoric or actions that may incite further violence.

“Sustainable peace is a shared responsibility,” Uwa emphasized, calling on community stakeholders to take collective ownership of the process.

The meeting drew wide representation from both ethnic groups, including political officeholders, traditional leaders, youth representatives, and security officials. Notably, it served as a platform to explore enduring solutions to recurring clashes in the area.

Speaking on behalf of the attendees, Bali LGA Chairman Dauda Aboki praised the Army’s intervention, describing the initiative as a “bold and timely step” toward community healing. He pledged the full cooperation of local authorities and community members in maintaining peace and security.

A major highlight of the session was the formal signing of a peace accord by all participants. The agreement committed stakeholders to uphold the rule of law, reject criminal activity, and resolve disputes through dialogue and lawful mechanisms.

This peace initiative not only demonstrates the Army’s evolving peacebuilding role but also reflects a growing emphasis on community-based strategies to address Nigeria’s complex security challenges.

As Taraba State continues to grapple with inter-communal tensions, the 6 Brigade’s approach stands as a hopeful model for reconciliation through dialogue and mutual respect.
