Lassa Fever Outbreak confirmed in Adamawa NYSC camp – Commissioner
Yesterday, the ministry of Health and Human Services Adamawa state confirmed the outbreak of Lassa Fever in a press release signed by the permanent secretary Pharm Zira Mathias Bubanani on behalf of the Honorable Commissioner.
The press release states that:
“The Ministry of health and Human Services Yola wishes to inform the general public that it has confirmed an outbreak of “Lassa Fever” in the state after a corps member from Damare NYSC orientation camp tested positive following release of the investigation of a sample taken from her by National Reference Laboratory (NRL) Abuja by health workers at Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital Yola”
“While contact tracing/isolation is ongoing, the public is hereby as well advised to ensure good hygiene and sanitation habits, avoid unnecessary contact, proper storage of leftover food and food items in order to prevent rats infestation.. and report symptoms similar to Lassa fever.”
The letter further noted that “We also call on the general public not to Panic as the ministry with support of His Excellency The Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in collaboration with all domiciled health facilities and agencies, NGOs and partners are working hard to prevent the spread of the disease.”
“A press detailed press briefing will be presented by the Honorable Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Hon Felix Bilishan Tangwami on Monday 4th March 2024 at the conference hall of the Ministry by 11am please”
