Tragedy on Borno Highway: Suspected Boko Haram Bomb Blast Claims Lives of Bus Passengers

In another tragic reminder of the persistent insecurity in Nigeria’s North-East, a deadly explosion suspected to have been orchestrated by Boko Haram insurgents ripped through a passenger bus on the Maiduguri-Damboa highway, claiming the lives of at least seven people.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday afternoon, happened along one of Borno State’s most critical transport routes—connecting Maiduguri, the state capital, to Damboa and other southern parts of the state.

According to eyewitnesses, the commuter bus was en route to Maiduguri when it hit an improvised explosive device (IED) allegedly planted by terrorists. The impact of the blast was devastating, leaving several passengers dead and others wounded.

Local residents who arrived at the scene said that the bodies of the deceased were quickly evacuated and transported to a hospital in Maiduguri for proper documentation and burial arrangements.

At the time of filing this report, state authorities had not issued an official statement regarding the attack.
