Tinubu Name Adeolat Oluwatosin as the New Director-General of the Department of State Services

President Bola Tinubu has named Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi as the new Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), replacing Yusuf Magaji Bichi, who had been in the role since his appointment by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018. The announcement was made by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.

In the same statement, Ngelale also revealed that Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed has been appointed as the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), following the resignation of Ahmed Abubakar. Ambassador Mohammed has had a distinguished career in the foreign service since joining the NIA in 1995, where he has held various positions, including leading the Nigerian mission in Libya. He is an alumnus of Bayero University, Kano, graduating in 1990, and has served in several countries, including North Korea, Pakistan, and Sudan, as well as at the State House in Abuja.

Mr. Adeola Ajayi, the newly appointed DSS Director-General, has advanced through the ranks within the DSS, previously serving as State Director in multiple states such as Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi. Before his recent appointment, he was the Assistant Director-General of the DSS.

According to Ngelale, these appointments were made following the resignations of the former chiefs of the NIA and DSS. President Tinubu has tasked the new security chiefs with improving the performance of their respective agencies. He expects them to leverage their expertise to address Nigeria’s security challenges through enhanced collaboration with other agencies and closer coordination with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
