Shocking Tragedy in Kano: Woman Allegedly Murders Husband Just Nine Days After Wedding

What began as a joyful union in Kano State has ended in heartbreak and horror, as a newlywed bride, Saudat Jibrin Adam, has been arrested for allegedly killing her husband, Salisu Idris Ibrahim, just nine days after their wedding.

The tragic incident occurred late Monday night in the Farawa community of Kumbotso Local Government Area, sending shockwaves through the neighborhood.

Eyewitnesses shared chilling details of what transpired. According to Dini Mada, a neighbor and one of the first to arrive at the scene, Salisu was lured by his wife with the promise of a “surprise.” He was asked to close his eyes—only to have his throat allegedly slit with a knife.

“I asked him who did this, and he said, ‘Dini, it’s my wife. She stabbed me in the neck in the parlour,’” Dini recounted. He said Salisu’s mother had rushed out after hearing a commotion, thinking the house was under attack, only to discover her son bleeding profusely.

Salisu was rushed to the hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Following the incident, the suspect reportedly locked herself in one of the bedrooms. She was found during a police search and arrested while still on a phone call.

“We didn’t even know she was still in the house until the police found her,” Dini added.

While the motive remains unclear, close sources suggest the couple had been facing marital challenges. Despite an outwardly loving courtship, tensions reportedly brewed beneath the surface. Neighbours claim Saudat often refused to cook or be intimate with her husband, which led to visible strain in their relationship.

On the night of the incident, Salisu had bought gurasa and meat for dinner after another refusal from his wife to cook.

“She always looked normal and even accompanied Salisu when visiting his family, so this has shocked all of us,” a neighbor said.

Salisu was buried according to Islamic rites, his death leaving a deep void among his loved ones. His brother, Tanimu Idris, confirmed the burial.

As of the time of publishing, the Kano State Police Command is still investigating the matter. Spokesperson SP Abdullahi Kiyawa confirmed that a formal statement will be released after ongoing investigations are concluded.
