2027: SDP Gubernatorial Aspirant, Theman, Charges Adamawa Caretaker Committee to Work for Party’s Success

A prominent gubernatorial aspirant of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Adamawa State, Hon. Wafarniyi Theman, has called on the party’s state caretaker committee to work assiduously to ensure the success of the party, ahead of the 2027 general elections

Hon. Theman made the call during a strategic meeting with the committee held at the SDP state secretariat in Yola. The visit, which also served as an appraisal and review session, was aimed at stimulating the state exco into action and charting a new course as the elections draw closer.

Theman, who also serves as the National Vice Chairman of the SDP for the North East, addressed the executives on the party’s national standing and its philosophical direction. He asserted that the SDP has been at the forefront of ensuring that democracy not only stands but flourishes in Nigeria.

“Democracy is not about the crowd, but the quality of the crowd,” Theman stated. He posited that the SDP is providing the much-needed ideological thinking of putting Nigeria first, a principle deeply embedded in the party’s programmes and manifestos.

During the interactive session, Hon. Wafarniyi Theman also briefed the executives on the recent Supreme Court ruling that has given the party the green light to proceed with its forthcoming congresses. He clarified the party’s leadership structure, confirming that for now, Professor Umar Sadiq Abubakar from Gombe State serves as the party’s National Chairman.

He further informed the gathering that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the SDP has authorized its National Working Committee (NWC) to consent to the guidelines and procedures for all upcoming congresses. Theman added that membership revalidation and electronic registration would commence soon, urging all members to prepare for the exercise.

Responding on behalf of the committee, the Adamawa State Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party, Awundana Paul, commended the gubernatorial hopeful for his continued commitment. He praised Hon. Theman for ensuring that the SDP did not go into oblivion in the state and the region.

“We are grateful for your leadership and foresight. We promise to work collectively for the progress of the party in Adamawa State,” Awundana Paul assured.

In a related development, Hon. Wafarniyi Theman demonstrated the spirit of the season by hosting executive members of an association of People Living with Disabilities (PWDs) to an Iftar (breaking of fast) at his residence in Yola.

The event was part of his effort to show love and solidarity during the holy month of Ramadan. Speaking at the gathering, Theman emphasized that his decision to host them was born out of a conviction that people living with disabilities are not defined by their challenges but by their immense potential.

“They are not just people with special needs, but people with special potentials,” he said, reaffirming his commitment to an inclusive society.
