Royal Father Advocates For Extension Of Girl-Child Education

The Murum Mbula, Bwaltam Bentley has advocated for the extension of girl-child education to others as a way of eradicating illiteracy in the society.

He stated this while receiving the Deputy Director of Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, AGILE, a non-governmental organization Mallam Mustapha Ahmed at his palace, noting with satisfaction the commencement of the programme in his domain.
The Murum Mbula commended Governor Ahmadu Umar Finitri for being part of the initiative in promoting not just his community, but the state for the benefit of the society.
The royal father, who assured of his council support and cooperation for the smooth implementation of the programme, explained that to educate a girl is to educate a nation.
Earlier, the Deputy Director of Agile, Mallam Mustapha Ahmed said adolescent girls in Nigeria are facing challenges that include inability to complete secondary Education.
Mallam Ahmed added that other challenges include gender-based violence, female genital mutilation, rape, early marriage and cost of schooling.
He said Agile with the sponsorship of the World Bank and Adamawa state ministry of education will improve the condition of existing primary and secondary schools to ensure effective and learning.
Mallam Ahmed pointed out that the programme also intends to provide modern teaching and learning materials in schools to encourage students to be attentive.
Also speaking, the AGILE safe guard officer, Mr Japheth Katufa thanked the Murum Mbula for his support and promised to deliver the project as planned.
The World Bank has approved additional financing of seven hundred million dollars to scale up the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, AGILE programme in Nigeria aimed to reach eight point six million girls.
