Police Recover 125 Stolen Manhole Covers in  FCT Abuja, Ramp Up Crackdown on Vandalism

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has made significant progress in its efforts to combat theft of vital public infrastructure, recovering an additional 10 stolen manhole covers. This brings the total number of manholes recovered to 125 in just one week.

The recent recovery, which occurred on February 4, 2025, came as a result of intelligence-driven operations in Abuja’s Dei-Dei area. Officers discovered the stolen covers hidden in a pit, thanks to a tip-off from a vigilant local informant. This successful operation highlights the power of community involvement in tackling crime.

FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, sent a strong message to criminals and those engaged in the illegal trade of public property. “Our efforts to recover stolen assets will not stop. We are intensifying our operations to locate and shut down illegal storage sites used by vandals. We are determined to rid the FCT of these criminal activities,” CP Disu declared.

This recovery follows a major success last week, where the Police, in partnership with the Joint Task Force (JTF) established by the FCT Minister, intercepted and recovered several pieces of damaged public infrastructure.

CP Disu praised the residents for their ongoing cooperation, urging them to remain watchful and proactive. He stressed that safeguarding public property is a collective responsibility, vital for ensuring a safe and well-functioning city.
