Northern Professionals Support Re-award of Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway Contract

Northern Professionals have expressed their strong support for the decision made by the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, to re-award the revoked section of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway to a new company.

This decision follows the Federal Government’s earlier revocation of the highway contract from Julius Berger Construction Company due to a dispute over pricing and completion timelines.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Dr. Isa Samaila Getso, Chairman, and Comrade Ibrahim Mohammad Geidam, Secretary of Northern Professionals, shared their satisfaction with the re-award, noting that initial concerns about potential delays and abandonment have now been resolved.

The statement praised the government for taking decisive action, especially after Julius Berger failed to meet the agreed completion date for the crucial road project. “We were really disturbed after the contract was terminated, but today, we unequivocally thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for taking proactive steps to resume and complete the Abuja-Kaduna road,” the statement read.

The group also noted their relief, acknowledging that the road, which had become increasingly dangerous, will finally be completed. They further emphasized that the revocation of the contract serves as a clear message to all contractors that the federal government will no longer tolerate delays under the pretext of rising costs or contract variations.

The decision has been met with widespread approval, as it signals the government’s commitment to completing vital infrastructure projects on time for the safety and benefit of all Nigerians.
