Nigerian Govt Transfers VIP Police Escorts to Kwara Communities

The Federal Government has reassigned police officers previously attached to VIP escort duties to communities in Kwara State hit by recent terrorist attacks.

The move is part of renewed efforts to boost security in vulnerable areas.

In a statement released on Friday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, explained that the redeployment is tied to intensified operations under Operation Savannah Shield.

According to Idris, the Nigeria Police Force has withdrawn a significant number of officers from VIP protection roles across the country and redirected them to frontline community policing.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier condemned the attacks as “beastly, heartless and emblematic of a doomed campaign by terrorists who deliberately target soft subjects”.

The statement added that the President ordered that the full weight of the state be brought against all actors threatening the peace.

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to Nigerian-led counter-terrorism efforts, while expressing openness to intelligence collaboration with international partners when necessary.
