Nigeria Defeats Benin to Boost AFCON Qualification

Despite a disappointing run in the World Cup qualifiers, Nigeria is out to change the tide for their first
game in preparation for the next edition of the AFCON, which will take place in Morocco in 2025.
The Super Eagles looked much alive against their opponents, who had gotten the better of them in the
World Cup qualifiers.
The Benin side is coached by former Nigerian Manager, Franco-German Tactician Gernot Rohr.
Nigeria had more chances in the first half but failed to convert any of them until a swift dribble by
Atlanta’s Ademola Lookman, who slotted it past the goalkeeper after taking on two defenders to give
Nigeria the lead at the stoppage time of the first half.
The second half became even more interesting as substitute Victor Osimhen scored less than 10
minutes after coming on. First-half goal scorer Ademola Lookman gave Nigeria the winning goal in
the 85th minute to seal a 3-0 victory for the Super Eagles.
Nigeria will top Group D with 3 points from today’s victory.
The Eagles will play Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali in their next game on Tuesday,
September 10, 2024, to continue their quest to qualify for the competition
