NEDC moves to establish Waste Recycling in Yola

In Yola, plans are underway by the NEDC to construct a large recycling facility aimed at managing waste and ensuring Adamawa’s cleanliness and safety. Mr. Sufiyan Mallum, the Senior Manager for Environment and Natural Resources, revealed this initiative during a climate change training workshop for 100 individuals in Yola.

Emphasizing the significance of this project, Mallum highlighted its capacity to handle 100 tonnes of waste daily, with intentions to hand it over to the state government once operational. He underscored the commission’s commitment to environmental protection, job creation for youth, and fostering regional development.

In addition to waste management, Mallum announced plans to educate people on plastic waste recycling and provide training on energy-efficient stoves to 100 women, who will receive starter kits afterward. Urging workshop participants to disseminate their newfound knowledge on climate change within their communities, Mallum stressed the importance of collective action.

Addressing the workshop, Mr. Ahmad Abbah discussed Nigeria’s vulnerability to climate change due to both human activities and natural factors. He urged participants to advocate for environmental regulations and tree planting initiatives akin to practices in other nations.

Echoing similar sentiments, Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources Mr. Mohammed Sadiq commended the timing of the training, given the state’s climate change challenges. He called for collaborative efforts in environmental protection, lauding NEDC for organizing the workshop and urging active participation from attendees.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the participants, Mr. Innocent Ishaya thanked NEDC for the opportunity to learn about climate change and its detrimental effects on the environment. He pledged to share their newfound knowledge with their communities and through social media platforms.
