Kwara senator empowers 60 youths, distributes computers

Senator representing Kwara South and Deputy Senate Leader, Lola Ashiru, has trained 60 youths in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and distributed 200 personal computer systems to beneficiaries across different political parties in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the senator on Wednesday in Offa, his Senior Legislative Aide, Mr. Yunus Alabi, told newsmen that the training was part of Ashiru’s ongoing empowerment programmes for constituents across the seven local government areas in the district.

According to him, the training is the fifth in the series since the senator assumed office.

Alabi said the programme, which coincided with the Ramadan period, provided accommodation as well as Sahur and Iftar meals for participants who came from outside Oyun and Offa local government areas.

The senator’s aide disclosed that the majority of participants were youths from various professions, including those still in school or engaged in different trades.

“The programme covered areas such as web design. It is part of efforts to expose youths and professionals to using technology to their advantage.

“The beneficiaries cut across different political parties, and it also extended beyond the senatorial district, as those who applied online were captured,” he said.

He added that the initiative was designed to empower the generality of the people, particularly youths, who constitute a higher percentage of the beneficiaries.
