The Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority (KSSQAA) has taken action against Al-Azhar Academy in Zaria following the tragic death of Marwan Sambo, a 19-year-old JSS 3 student, who reportedly succumbed to severe beatings and corporal punishment due to absenteeism.

Usman Abubakar, the Director General of KSSQAA, stated that in collaboration with the state’s Ministry of Education and the school, they have initiated a fact-finding mission. Their visit to Zaria aims to piece together the events leading from the Al-Azhar Academy, where the incident occurred, to the victim’s home, in order to offer condolences and engage with the grieving family and fellow schoolmates.

Mr. Abubakar further informed that the KSSQAA team visited the Divisional Police Headquarters, Zaria City, where the school principal and vice-principal were being held. They also confirmed the victim’s passing at Hajiya Gambo Sawaba General Hospital, Zaria. The team concluded their visit by paying respects at the victim’s resting place, noting a recently dug grave.
