Yesterday, Monday 04 March 2024, a community development initiative known as JAGAMATO which stands for (Mayo-Belwa, Jada. Ganye, and Toungo) in collaboration with the Member representing the 4 LGA, Hon Mohammed Inuwa Bassi has empowered PDW across the 4 LGA.

The event, which witnessed the mass attendance of thousands constituents, has attracted thousands applause from public as a symbol of inclusion for people with disabilities.

Camaamedia culled from the Facebook page of the group, a statement it has published which reads thus:

“Following our commitment to support the vulnerable people in our communities, we flag-off the empowerment of over 70 persons with disabilities with a cash start-up grant and POS machine under the JAGAMATO social investment programme.

Beneficiaries were selected from various communities across the four local governments of Jada, Ganye, Mayo-Belwa, and Toungo.”

“This is meant to provide persons with disabilities with business opportunities to become self-reliant in these present economic challenges. The empowerment will have an impact on the lives of the people, looking at their condition and the current economic hardship. One of the beneficiaries from Jada Bapetel Ahmed Mustapha, who is deaf, said, “Before now, I lacked what to do and have been redundant. But with this opportunity, I will start my own business and make sure I expand it for others to benefit too.”

“The empowerment came as a result of the assessment we carried out on the needs and challenges of the people living with disabilities in the communities. Empowerment aims to improve the standard of living of the people and teach them how to start a business and become independent without depending on others for their needs. A two-day training was designed for them on business sustainability to help them be successful.”

The coordinator and chairman of the group Engr Hon. Daniel Dishon disclosed this after the event.
