A former member of the House of Representatives and gubernatorial aspirant, Abdulrazak Saad Namdas, has issued a strong appeal to members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State to embrace the alleged defection of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that hostile comments from party members could jeopardize the move.

In an open letter to party members, Namdas expressed dismay over recent interviews, articles, and social media posts by some APC members criticizing the governor’s anticipated defection and vowing to resist it. He cautioned that such rhetoric is counterproductive and reminiscent of the internal conflicts that have historically weakened the party in the state.

Namdas acknowledged that the APC remains the largest opposition party in Adamawa but argued that internal sabotage and anti-party activities have prevented it from securing the governorship in past elections. He called for unity among stakeholders, leaders, and supporters, stressing that a cohesive front is essential for victory in 2027.

However, Namdas painted a stark picture of the current political landscape, noting the strength of the ruling PDP under Governor Fintiri, the emergence of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) backed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and the departure of prominent APC figures—including former Governor Bindow Jibrilla, Senator Aisha Dahiru Binani, Senator Ishiaku Abbo, and Sadiq Ibrahim Dasin—to the ADC.

“It is clear that we undoubtedly need Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in our fold,” Namdas stated. He attributed the departure of the aforementioned chieftains to the “careless comments and interviews” given by some party members in the past.

Namdas specifically took issue with suggestions that Governor Fintiri should join the APC as an ordinary member, describing such remarks as a misunderstanding of the influence of a sitting governor.

“If Fintiri is indeed joining the APC as alleged, he will bring along his deputy, 24 commissioners, 3 senators, 5 members of the House of Representatives, 16 state legislators, 21 local government chairmen, 226 councillors, special advisers, assistants, party executives, and other stakeholders,” Namdas outlined, illustrating the massive political bloc that would accompany the governor.

He questioned the credentials of those opposing Fintiri’s entry, asking what value they have contributed to the party. Namdas suggested that some political operatives are raising false alarms out of fear of losing their influence should the governor join the APC.

Namdas defended the governor’s track record, stating that Fintiri has transformed Adamawa State to the extent that his performance in infrastructure development has been recognized by both former President Muhammadu Buhari and current President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He noted that President Tinubu is scheduled to visit Yola on Monday, February 16, 2026, to commission projects at the governor’s invitation—a visit Namdas framed as evidence of Fintiri’s standing.

“As an appointee of the President, a former two-term member of the House of Representatives, and a gubernatorial aspirant in the 2023 election, I would like the governor to join the APC because I recognize the value he will bring, even if others do not,” Namdas stated.

He also praised the state party executives and the party leader, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for their efforts in holding the party together. Namdas emphasized that Ribadu’s primary focus is ensuring President Tinubu’s victory in 2027 and that welcoming Fintiri aligns with that objective.

“In light of this, we should join our party leader in welcoming Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to the APC,” Namdas concluded.
