Gangwari Charges Chiefdom to Support New Waziri Ganye at Historic Turbaning.

Ganye stood still in celebration on Saturday, February 7, as tradition, colour, and history converged at the palace of the Gangwari. After several years of vacancy, the ancient Ganye Chiefdom officially welcomed a new Waziri with the turbaning of Alhaji Hamidu Abbo as the 4th Waziri Ganye.

The ceremony, presided over by the Paramount Ruler, His Royal Highness Gangwari Ganye, Alhaji Umaru Adamu Sanda, was marked by rich cultural displays and a strong sense of renewal. For many in attendance, the occasion symbolised not just the filling of a traditional office, but the restoration of a key pillar of leadership within the chiefdom.

Addressing the gathering, the Gangwari called on the people of Ganye to give their full support to the new Waziri as he assumes his responsibilities. He described the selection of Hamidu Abbo as the outcome of a careful and deliberate process, guided by trust, experience, and service.

According to the monarch, the office of Waziri remains one of the most critical positions within the traditional council, requiring wisdom, integrity, and courage.

“The Waziri’s role is central to the strength of our traditional council,” the Gangwari noted, urging the new title holder to serve without fear or favour, and to provide guidance to those who look up to the office for leadership.

The event attracted dignitaries from across the region. Chairman of Ganye Local Government Area, Alhaji Farouk Mohammed, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage, describing the council’s support for the ceremony as part of broader efforts to strengthen traditional institutions.

Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Aliyu Modibbo Umar, the Danburam Gombe, praised the Gangwari for his choice and encouraged the new Waziri to draw on his experience in public service and business to advance the development of the chiefdom.

In his acceptance speech, Waziri Hamidu Abbo expressed deep appreciation to the Gangwari for the honour bestowed on him, describing the appointment as a call to service to the people of Ganye and the wider Chamba community.

He acknowledged the responsibilities attached to his new role as a permanent member of the Ganye Traditional Council and emphasised the importance of adapting traditional leadership to contemporary realities.

Focusing on the future, the new Waziri pledged to prioritise youth empowerment, particularly through entrepreneurship and skills development, which he described as essential for sustainable growth.

“In today’s world, knowledge and skills drive progress. We must guide our youth towards entrepreneurship, mentorship, and sustainable development,” he said.

The historic turbaning ceremony was rounded off with colourful cultural dances from different parts of the chiefdom, royal salutations, and the presentation of gifts, leaving many attendees hopeful that the installation of a new Waziri will usher in a renewed era of unity, leadership, and development in Ganye.
