Hildi Ward in Adamawa Claims Historic Victory in Engineer Musa Nimrod U-20 Football Tournament

In a thrilling climax to the 7th edition of the Engineer Musa Nimrod Under-20 Male Inter-Ward Football Tournament for wards in Hong local government area, Hildi Ward etched its name into the competition’s history, clinching its maiden title after a tense penalty shootout victory over Moyolope Ward.

The final, held on a standard pitch praised by officials, ended 1-1 after regulation time, with both teams demonstrating grit and determination.

The deadlock persisted through extra time, forcing a penalty decider where Hildi Ward held their nerve to triumph 4-2, sparking wild celebrations among their supporters.

Earlier in the day, the third-place playoff saw Banshika Ward deliver a commanding performance, defeating former champions Shangui Ward 2-0.

The victory secured the bronze medal for Banshika, which showcased what observers termed “good football lessons” in their dominant display.

At the presentation ceremony, all winning teams were rewarded with medals, certificates, and cash prizes, courtesy of the tournament’s sponsor.

The week-long event was supervised by the Technical Director of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), Mr. Abdulgafar Agboola.

He lauded the donor and sponsor, Engineer Musa Nimrod, for his unwavering commitment to sustaining the annual championship despite prevailing economic challenges.

“Engineer Nimrod’s dedication is commendable. The availability of a standard pitch also contributed to making this one of the best editions of the tournament,” Agboola stated.

While commending the overall resilience and talent displayed by the players, the Technical Director addressed incidents of misconduct.

He confirmed that Hong Ward players had been indicted for unruly behaviour and subsequently banned from participating in future events, emphasizing the importance of discipline in sports.

In his remarks, the Adamawa State Chairman of YSFON, Mr. Clement Sebore, joined in praising the sponsor’s efforts. “We give full credit to Engineer Musa Nimrod for this initiative. With such sustained support, we are hopeful that future championships will be even bigger and better,” Sebore said.

The tournament concluded with a renewed commitment to nurturing grassroots football talent and promoting sportsmanship among the youth of Adamawa State.
