“He Should Not Be Kept Alive” — Kano Massacre Suspect’s Father Calls for Death Penalty

Shock and outrage continue to ripple across Kano State following the brutal killing of a woman and her six children in what residents describe as one of the most horrifying crimes in recent memory. In a startling twist, the father of the prime suspect has publicly demanded that his own son be executed, insisting he deserves no mercy or public sympathy.

The suspect, Umar Auwal, is currently in police custody after being arrested in connection with the massacre that occurred in Dorayi Gidan Kwari, Chiranchi area of Kano metropolis, on Saturday. The attack reportedly took place in broad daylight after the assailants forcibly entered the family’s home.

The victims have been named as Fatima Abubakar (35) and her six children:

Investigators have identified Umar as a nephew of the deceased woman, a detail that has intensified public shock and anger.

In an emotional interview aired on a local radio station, Umar’s father, Malam Auwal, publicly disowned his son and called on the authorities to impose the death penalty without delay.

“What he did to my younger sister and her children is unforgivable,” he said. “I completely distance myself from him.”

The distraught father went further, arguing that Umar should not remain alive at public expense.

“He should not be kept in prison and fed with taxpayers’ money. People like him should be eliminated,” Malam Auwal stated.

Adding to the horror, Malam Auwal alleged that his son had a history of extreme violence, claiming that Umar previously killed another relative years ago and mutilated her body — allegations that have intensified calls for a deeper investigation into the suspect’s past activities.
