Governor Fintiri Calls for Increased NEDC Interventions as Adamawa Grapples with Population Influx

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has appealed to the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to initiate more developmental projects in Adamawa State, citing the overwhelming pressure on existing facilities due to a surge in population from neighbouring states recovering from insurgency.

The Governor made the call on Monday 9th February 2026 when he received the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu, who was on a working visit to the state.

Represented by his Deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, Governor Fintiri expressed gratitude for the NEDC’s existing interventions but stressed the urgent need for expanded support.

“While we thank the NEDC for their interventions in the state, we are advocating for more projects due to the influx of people from insurgency-ravaged states, which has overstretched our already existing facilities,” the Governor stated.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding NEDC’s investments, promising to “ensure the facilities put in place by the commission in Adamawa stand the test of time.”

Earlier, Minister Uba Maigari Ahmadu explained that his visit was centred on the inspection, commissioning, and formal handover of several NEDC-funded projects across the state for public use.

He revealed that the projects, spread across various communities, span critical sectors including “education, health, and humanitarian outreach, among others.”

The Minister lauded Governor Fintiri’s developmental strides, describing his “transformational drive in the state as amazing.” In a notable remark, he opined that “politics does not recognize development,” implying that genuine progress transcends political lines.

“Such leaders of good repute require encouragement and support,” Minister Ahmadu added, commending the state government’s partnership.

The handover of the new projects is expected to provide immediate relief and enhance service delivery in the benefiting communities, even as the state government pushes for broader interventions to match its growing needs.
