Governor Agbu Engages Public School Administrators, Unveils Bold Education Reforms

Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has once again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to transforming education in the state. Meeting with principals and head teachers of public schools at the Banquet Hall, TY Danjuma House in Jalingo, the governor reaffirmed his resolve to tackle infrastructural challenges and reposition public education for excellence.

The gathering provided an opportunity for school administrators to brief the governor on pressing issues, paving the way for practical and targeted interventions.

Dr. Kefas explained that the meeting was convened to fast-track renovations of existing facilities while awaiting the completion of new school buildings. In a bold move, he announced that funds would be released directly to principals and head teachers to execute projects such as renovations, provision of furniture, fencing, tree planting, and access roads.

To ensure accountability and community participation, the governor tasked school leaders with reviving Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) to supervise projects at the grassroots. He also revealed plans to set up Community Education Development Committees across all local government areas. These committees, he said, have just two weeks to submit their quotations and proposals, after which funds would be released without delay.

The governor further requested accurate data on the number of public schools, teachers, and students in each local government area to guide future planning and policy decisions.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Augustina Godwin, commended Dr. Kefas for his relentless efforts to reposition Taraba’s education sector. She noted that the meeting marked another step towards building a brighter educational future for the state.

Dr. Godwin highlighted the impact of the governor’s free education policy, which has already led to a surge in public school enrollment. She assured that the ministry remains fully committed to supporting the governor’s vision, particularly in advancing quality teaching, digital literacy, and vocational skills development.

With these reforms, Governor Kefas continues to strengthen the foundation for a sustainable and inclusive education system in Taraba State.
