Fintiri Commissions Mayo-Belwa Cattle Market, Applauds L-PRES Impact

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has taken another decisive step toward transforming Adamawa State’s livestock economy with the commissioning of a newly constructed International Cattle Market in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area.

The commissioning, which formed part of the Governor’s ongoing statewide development tour, marked a major milestone in the state’s push for modern livestock infrastructure and market-driven agricultural growth. The project was executed under the supervision of the Ministry of Livestock and Aquaculture Development, reinforcing the administration’s focus on sustainable livelihoods and economic diversification.

Speaking at the event, Governor Fintiri commended the Ministry for its strategic leadership in expanding livestock infrastructure across the state, noting that the Mayo-Belwa market aligns seamlessly with his administration’s broader agenda of agricultural modernization and job creation.

The Governor specifically acknowledged the outstanding contributions of the State Project Coordinator of L-PRES,  Mr Secondee Alpha, for his effective coordination and implementation of the project, describing his role as critical to the market’s successful delivery. He also praised the National Coordinator of L-PRES, Sanusi Abubakar, for his strong institutional support and oversight in strengthening livestock value chains and market systems in Adamawa State.

According to Governor Fintiri, the newly commissioned international market is expected to significantly enhance livestock trade, improve animal health management standards, generate employment opportunities, and increase the state’s internally generated revenue. He added that pastoralists, traders, transporters, and allied stakeholders across the livestock sector stand to benefit immensely from the facility.

The ceremony attracted a broad range of stakeholders, including the Honourable Commissioner for Livestock and Aquaculture Development, the Chairman of Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area, Hon. Umar Nashion Gubi, members of the State Executive Council, traditional rulers, security agencies, and development partners.
