ELECTORAL ACT AMENDMENT: Reps Prescribe Jail Term for Dual Party Membership

The House of Representatives has amended the Electoral Act 2026 to criminalize dual membership of political parties.

In the new provision, anyone found guilty of belonging to more than one political party at the same time will face a fine of N10 million or jail time.

The green chamber passed the amendment during Wednesday’s plenary.

The House also proscribed a maximum prison term of two years for offenders.
