Eid-ul-Adha: FG Declares June 6 and 9 Public Holidays Nationwide

The Federal Government has announced that Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, will be public holidays throughout Nigeria in celebration of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha festival.

The declaration was made in an official statement released by the Ministry of Interior on Monday. Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, conveyed the announcement on behalf of the Federal Government.

As Muslim communities in Nigeria and across the globe prepare for the holy celebration, the Minister extended warm wishes to all Muslim faithful, emphasizing the importance of the occasion in Islamic tradition.

“The Federal Government has approved Friday, 6th and Monday, 9th June 2025, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration,” the statement confirmed.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged Muslims to reflect on the lessons of sacrifice, obedience, and faith demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon him), the central figure behind Eid-ul-Adha.

He encouraged Nigerians of all faiths to use the period to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in the country.

The Interior Minister also reiterated the administration’s dedication to national development, stressing that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government remains focused on transformative reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He noted that the government’s initiatives are designed to promote inclusive growth, social welfare, and sustainable progress for all Nigerians.
