Customs officer slumps, dies before investigative committee in House of Reps
A top officer of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), names withheld, has slumped and died.
He died while responding to questions at the Investigative Hearing of Public Account Committee at the House of Representatives.
The incident happened at about 1:00 pm on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, when the officer suddenly developed health complications.
Despite immediate efforts by first responders and medical staff at the National Assembly Clinic, he unfortunately did not survive.
At the time of this report, the officerโs name was not disclosed out of respect for his familyโs privacy.
Akin Rotimi, the House spokesperson, stated, โIt is with deep sadness that we confirm the passing of an esteemed official of the Nigeria Customs Service who was at the National Assembly for an engagement with a House Committee.
โOut of respect for the family, the officialโs name will not be disclosed at this time. The House of Representatives extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased during this difficult time. We recognize the significant contributions he made to the Nigeria Customs Service and our nation.โ
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen expressed his condolences, stating, โWe are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of a dedicated public servant. Our hearts go out to his family during this difficult time.โ
The House of Representatives assured that it stands ready to support efforts to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident and is cooperating fully with relevant authorities to ensure all necessary protocols are followed.
