A Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, on Wednesday remanded a 25-year-old woman for allegedly causing severe harm to a 12-year-old girl by inserting a piece of burning firewood into her private part.

The incident occurred at the defendant’s residence, No. 6 Isewo Dotin, in the Obada-Oko area of Abeokuta.

The woman pleaded guilty to the charge and requested the court’s forgiveness. Magistrate B.V. William ordered her to be remanded in a correctional facility and instructed the prosecution to send the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice. The case was adjourned to June 26 for mention.

Prosecutor Lawrence Olu-Balogun stated that the defendant committed the offense on June 11 at her residence.

He alleged that the defendant, acting as the victim’s guardian, used the burning firewood as a punishment for the girl’s alleged theft of beverages worth N650.

The offense contravenes Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006.
