The Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) has issued a public notice ahead of the local government elections scheduled for July 13, 2024. The notice, signed by key officials, including the Executive Chairman, Mohammed Umar, and the Secretary, Mohammed Tukur, outlines several measures to ensure smooth conduct of the elections.

ADSIEC’s announcement informs the general public that the state government has directed a comprehensive closure of all markets, motor parks, recreation centers, and similar public venues. This measure is aimed at minimizing unnecessary movement and ensuring a secure environment during the election period.

The restrictions will be enforced from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm on the election day.

The commission emphasizes that the restrictions apply to all movements within the state, except for those on essential duties. Essential workers, including healthcare personnel and security agencies, are expected to carry out their duties as usual. ADSIEC has called on security agencies to enforce these directives strictly to maintain order and safety throughout the electoral process.

The press release highlights the importance of these measures in facilitating a smooth and orderly election. By restricting movement and closing public spaces, the state aims to reduce the risk of disturbances and ensure that voters can participate in the electoral process without fear or hindrance.

ADSIEC also underscores the role of security agencies in enforcing these directives, urging them to be vigilant and proactive in their duties. The commission appeals to the public to comply with the restrictions and support the efforts to conduct a peaceful and orderly election.

This directive is part of the broader strategy to enhance the credibility and integrity of the local government elections. ADSIEC reaffirms its commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and transparent electoral process, urging all stakeholders to cooperate fully with the guidelines.

In the end, ADSIEC reminds the citizens of Adamawa State that their vote is their right and encourages them to participate actively in the forthcoming local government elections. The commission’s efforts are geared towards creating an environment that fosters democratic participation and upholds the principles of good governance.
