Bill to regulate market middlemen passes second at Benue Assembly

A bill seeking to regulate the activities of Market middle men has passed second reading at the Benue State House of Assembly.

The bill was passed Tuesday during plenary after majority of the law makers supported it when the Speaker Chief Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh put it to vote.

While leading the debate, sponsor of the bill and member representing Kwande West Constituency Hon. Pharm. Thomas Dugeri explained that the bill when passed will enhance significant improvement in trading and eliminate sharp practices by middle men.

He said farmers have been cheated by the activities of market middle men for so long, saying the bill when passed would help check the ugly trend.

Member representing Makurdi North Constituency Hon. Berger Alfred and that of Oju one State Constituency Blessed Onah in their separate contributions expressed dissatisfaction with the activities of market middle men and said it has caused severe pains to farmers.

The house agreed that when the bill is passed, farmers will have value for their produce.
