Adamawa Students in UNIJOS Cry Out Over Insecurity, Seek Urgent Evacuation

The Adamawa State Students’ Union, University of Jos chapter, has called on the Adamawa State Government to urgently evacuate its members from Jos amid escalating security concerns in Plateau State.

In a formal letter addressed to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the union—through its President, David Japhet, and Secretary General, Khalabi John Simon—expressed deep concern over what it described as a deteriorating security situation threatening the lives of Adamawa indigenes studying at the University of Jos and other institutions in the state.

The union warned that the situation has reached a critical level, with many students unable to move freely due to ongoing unrest and limited access to safe areas.

Speaking in an interview, the union’s Secretary General painted a grim picture of the situation, revealing that the crisis has already claimed the life of one student.

“The situation facing Adamawa students in Jos is critical and worsening. We have already lost one of our colleagues, and over one hundred students are currently stranded without access to safe locations,” he said.

According to him, the prevailing insecurity has left many students vulnerable and in urgent need of intervention.

The union is therefore urging the state government to take immediate steps to facilitate the safe evacuation of affected students either back to Adamawa State or to other secure locations.

“Swift action from the government will not only guarantee the safety of the students but also bring relief to their families and prevent further loss of lives,” the union added.

The appeal comes amid growing concerns over security challenges in Plateau State, with students and residents alike calling for urgent measures to restore safety and normalcy.
