Adamawa State Police Command Put Measures To Prevent Herders/Farmers Conflict

Adamawa State Police Command Friday organized Police/Community engagement, a framework aimed at preventing herders/farmers conflict across the state.

CP Dankombo Morris, Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, interacted extensively with the critical stakeholders, including community leaders, hunters/vigilante leaders, PCRC executives, representatives of grazers and farmers, businessmen, and some Divisional Police Officers.

Morris emphasized the need for all parties to key into the strategy already adopted by the Command to address herders/farmers conflicts, especially as the rainy season approaches.

He advised against actions and utterances that could be inimical to peace, described as unnecessary the tension caused during the rainy season as a result of struggle over land and water by the two groups.

Morris identified some factors that caused the conflict to encroach into government-approved grazing reserves, night grazing by herders, and the use of minors for grazing, as well as the harbouring of unidentified immigrants.

In his message, Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, through his Senior Special Assistant on Security and Community Development, Alhaji Ahmed Lawan, the Governor said government has already put measures in place to ensure peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders in the state through articulated policies and Programmes.
