Adamawa State Initiates Mass Cattle Vaccination to Combat Deadly Disease

The Adamawa State Government has launched a mass vaccination campaign to protect cattle from Hemorrhagic Septicaemia, a disease, recently resulted in the death of over 1,000 cattle in neighboring Taraba State.

The campaign, spearheaded by the Commissioner for Livestock and Aquaculture, Alhaji Tijjani Marksha, is aimed at preventing the disease from getting into Adamawa State.

Starting in Gongoshi, in Mayo Belwa Local Government Area, the vaccination effort has already seen hundreds of cattle immunized. The Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the cooperation from cattle owners and lauded Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his swift action.

Permanent Secretary Aminu Mohammed Suleiman described the symptoms of the disease as including sweating, high body temperature, and a rapid onset that can kill a cow within 24 hours. He encouraged the public to report any suspected cases to nearby veterinary clinics or the ministry.

Dr. Berthilimous Nyalas, Director of State Veterinary Services, identified the local governments included in the first phase of the vaccination: Numan, Demsa, Lamurde, Mayo Belwa, Toungo, Fufore, Maiha, Mubi North, and Mubi South, due to their close proximity to Taraba State and the Cameroon Republic.

Ardo Kwanan Lauje, Gonhoshi Ardo Abfu Gajere, praised Governor Fintiri for his quick response, noting that this is the first time the government has proactively addressed their concerns without a formal request.
