Adamawa Government Approves N1 Billion Virement for Foreign Scholarship Students

The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved a significant amendment to the 2025 state budget, allocating an extra ₦1 billion to the State Scholarship Trust Fund. This move is aimed at settling outstanding tuition and allowances for students studying at Mewar University in India under the state’s foreign scholarship programme.

The decision was made during the council’s 6th meeting of the year, chaired by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the Government House in Yola. Speaking to journalists after the session, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. James Iliya, confirmed the approval of the budget revision.

In a related briefing, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Umar Garba Pella, noted that the scholarship beneficiaries are pursuing degrees in health and engineering disciplines. He emphasized that clearing the backlog of payments to the university is crucial for the release of students’ certificates, a requirement for their participation in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Earlier, the sponsored students had visited the Government House to thank Governor Fintiri for facilitating their academic journey abroad and for the state’s continued support.
