Adamawa Dep Gov Farauta lauds Rtd Perm Sec Haj Mariya Nyako at sendoff

Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa G. Farauta, has praised Hajiya Mariya Adamu Nyako for her exemplary service and significant contributions to the state upon her retirement as Permanent Secretary. At a farewell ceremony held in the Deputy Governor’s office, Farauta commended Nyako’s dedication, particularly highlighting her recent role at the State Boundary Commission.

The Deputy Governor also addressed the new Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Mercy Audu, urging her to remain diligent in her new role during a critical period of boundary negotiations between Nigeria and Cameroon. Farauta emphasized the importance of collaboration and unbiased service to achieve the state’s objectives.

In her response, Hajiya Mariya Nyako expressed gratitude to the state governor for providing an environment that allowed her to effectively serve and contribute to the development of Adamawa State.

Mr. Amos Hinjari, in his goodwill message, also acknowledged the positive working relationship he had with the retiring permanent secretary, appreciating her commitment and professionalism.

The ceremony underscored the vital role of leadership in fostering development and cooperation within the state’s administrative framework, setting a standard for continued excellence under the new permanent secretary’s leadership.

It will interest you to note that Haj Mariya is a seasoned educationist, devoted teacher and administrator for over 3 decades.

Her career began as a classroom teacher at Government Secondary School, Girei, where she eventually became Vice Principal. In 1998, she was appointed Director of the Family Support Programme at the Government House, Yola. She served as principal GSS Army Barracks from 1999 to 2006. In 2007, Mariya Adamu Nyako became Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Scholarship Board and later, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Trust Fund.

On December 1, 2016 she was appointed the substantive Registrar of Adamawa State Polytechnic Yola by then Gov Sen. Umaru Jibrilla Bindo beating 30 other contenders.

Later in 2018, Gov. Bindow approved her appointment as Permanent Secretary from Mayo-Belwa LGA. In the course of her service, Haj Mariya served as Permanent Secretary under various portfolios; Ministry of Higher Education, Special Duties, Culture and Tourism, Local Government Services, Boundary Commission and Water Resources.

Her service, humanitarian and philanthropic contributions to the people saw her the title of Zinariya Mayo-Belwa by the District Head of Mayo-Belwa Alh Bamanga Dalil, Sarauniyar Yakin Mbilla and Magayakin Ganglamja Districts of Mayo-Belwa LGA.

She served as the BOT member of Royalty Women for Peace and Development Initiative (ROWPEDI) an NGO based in Yola that seeks to unite all women traditional title holders in the Adamawa Emirate Council in order to promote peaceful co-existence, community cohesion, good governance, inclusion of women in governance, sustainable development.

Hajiya Mariya is alumnus of the reputable Queen Elizabeth College Illorin, Kwara State 1981. She holds a B.Sc in Home Economics from prestigious Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in 1989. A Diploma (PGD) in Education from the University of Jos in 1995, and a Masters Degree in Educational Management and Planning from Federal University of Technology Yola in 2007 (now M.A.U).

Hajiya Mariya is happily married with children; Kamal and Bushira.
