The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Adamawa State chapter, has expressed support for the recent political defection of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, emphasizing that leadership should be judged by performance and integrity rather than party affiliation.

The statement was made by Rev. Joel Manzo, CAN Chairman, on Monday, March 2, 2026, during a 2026 Iftar with the Executive Governor of Adamawa State. Speaking on behalf of church leaders and the CAN executive, Rev. Manzo thanked Governor Fintiri for inviting the Christian community to join in the breaking of fast, describing the gesture as a demonstration of his commitment to unity, peaceful coexistence, and inclusive governance.

He lauded the governor’s developmental initiatives and contributions to peace and stability in the state, adding:
“We are aware that some may feel uncomfortable with your recent political defection. However, for us, we see it as an undisclosed blessing whose positive outcomes will unfold in due course.”

Rev. Manzo urged the governor to continue delivering good governance for the benefit of all residents, noting that leadership should be evaluated by integrity and results rather than party platform.

The Iftar, attended by government officials, religious leaders, and local government chairmen, highlighted the spirit of unity and interfaith harmony in Adamawa State.
