20-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Scalding Pregnant Sister-in-Law During Labor in Adamawa State

In a disturbing event in Adamawa State, a 20-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly scalding her pregnant sister-in-law with hot water while she was in the throes of labor. The shocking incident occurred on Wednesday, January 27, 2025, in the Dubeli area of Yola North Local Government Area. The Adamawa State Police Command is currently investigating the matter.

The suspect, Jamila Ishiaku, confessed to the crime, explaining that she acted out of anger following a heated argument with the victim. In her interview with the police, Ishiaku admitted to using hot water to harm her sister-in-law while the victim was enduring the intense pains of childbirth.

The Adamawa State Police Command has assured the public that the suspect will face the full force of the law. Nguroje, the Police Public Relations Officer, emphasized the importance of resolving disputes legally and advised the residents of Adamawa to avoid taking matters into their own hands.

“We strongly encourage the people of Adamawa to report crimes and suspicious activities to the police,” Nguroje stated. “If you witness something, don’t hesitate to speak up, and the authorities will take the necessary steps to address the situation.”

The victim’s family is devastated by the attack. Nefisat Dahiru, the sister of the scalded woman, is calling for justice and urging the authorities to ensure that the responsible party is held accountable.

The victim’s husband, Gambo Dahiru, shared his anguish, noting the ongoing suffering of his wife, who is in severe pain following the attack. “I have been crying for days now,” he said emotionally. “My wife is in constant pain and unable to stop crying. This is a grave injustice, and I am pleading for the law to take its rightful course.”
